EXPERIENCE:  Ms. Shirk represents both civil litigants and criminal defendants.  She has represented business and individual clients in the areas of civil litigation, personal injury, insurance defense, labor and employment, and medical malpractice.  She enjoys practicing in both state and federal court and has had the opportunity to argue before the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals.
 
Ms. Shirk is currently a Criminal Justice Act Training Panel attorney (Northern District of Indiana, South Bend Division) representing defendants charged with crimes in federal court. 

EDUCATION:  Michelle earned degrees from the University of Notre Dame Law School (J.D., 2007) and Purdue University (B.A. Political Science/History, With Distinction, 2004).  While attending Notre Dame, Ms. Shirk participated in the Summer London Law Program and was involved with the school’s International Moot Court team.

BAR ADMISSIONS: Ms. Shirk was admitted to the bar in 2007 (Indiana and U.S. District Courts, Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana); and in 2008 was admitted to the Seventh Circuit.

PROFESSIONAL MEMBERSHIPS:  Ms. Shirk is a member of the La Porte County Bar Association.

LEADERSHIP:  Ms. Shirk participates in the School Buddies program through Big Brothers Big Sisters of La Porte County and serves as a Teen Court judge.  She is also a board member for READ La Porte County, Inc.
